The Challenge
Tom needed an outdoor staircase to go from his yard downstairs to his lakeview deck upstairs. He wanted to be able to enjoy his outdoor spaces more without having to go all the way inside the house to move from his deck to his backyard, and he didn’t want to impede the gorgeous view from his deck. With a lake just downstairs, the staircase needed to be safe for wet feet and very sturdy. Tom’s home is in Minnesota, so his new staircase also needed to be able to withstand significant rain, heat, and humidity without rusting or degrading while also being beautiful and complementary to the existing structure. He was worried that with all these requirements for his new stairs, the project would be expensive or even impossible.
